I have long loved a red front door, but this one from Country Living has been a particular inspiration.
So with Fall in the air, I headed to Sherwin Williams (where they are uncommonly helpful) and selected the exterior Cardinal Red paint. Their “Resilience” brand saved me the trouble of priming my black door. I guess it’s a two-in-one primer and paint. Incredible paint.
Remember my original door?
The only close-ups of it are these with my little guys in front.
And now, after painting the inside door and storm door red, and spraying the kick plate and house numbers a Rustoleum metallic silver, we have this!
Here’s what it looks like when the main door is open and only the storm door is visible. (With a curious dog peeking out.)
Here’s the before and after comparison.
The whole job cost me $23. ($17 for the red paint and $6 for the metallic spray paint)

Ooooh I love your red door!! MUCH prettier than the Country Living version. Your house is gorgeous.
And it was such a cheap project to do! Thanks Jen!
The door is beautiful (as is the house)! I’m looking to change my front door to red, but are having trouble finding the right storm door. I LOVE yours! If you don’t mind my asking, where did you get it?
Thanks Jen!
This storm door came with the house when we bought it last year. I’m sorry to say I don’t know where it was purchased, but I did find a similar one online at ScreenTight: http://www.screentight.com/prod-screen-doors-wood-gallery.shtml. It’s the one titled “Storm Door.” Hope that helps!
Thank you! I appreciate the help!
I love that red! Do you remember the name of that color, I’d love to use it for my front door make over.
Hi Karen, Yes! It’s exterior Cardinal Red paint from Sherwin Williams. If you choose the “Resilience” you won’t have to prime first!
