DIY Drop Cloth Drapes

For most of the year, my back screened porch was arranged like this.

But instead of this outdoor dining room, I’ve been wanting a more cozy and conversational arrangement. Plus, I’ve always loved the cabana look which is both relaxing and inviting. I took inspiration from West Elm:

and from Elle Decor (I think):

and from Decor Pad:

But I’m not spending $715 ($65 apiece for 11 of them) for outdoor drape panels. Not a chance. Instead I took a cue from DIY blogland and decided to go for the Home Depot drop cloth curtains at $10 a pop. Instead of curtain rods we used 1/2″ PVC pipe which cost us about $7. (Do you KNOW how much “real” curtain rods cost? Insane.) I already had 4 sets of clip curtain rings, but did have to buy another 7 sets, which were about $7 each.

The whole project set me back $174.

$116 – 11 Home Depot Drop cloths
$7 – PVC pipe and couplers
$51 – 7 sets of curtain clips

Wow, I LOVE this…very, very inspiring. I thought the first photo I saw (the one of your actual back porch-after) was from a magazine! You rock!!

This is gorgeous! When I buy a house one day I’m definitely going to ask you a million questions about decor.

Can you dye the drop cloths? I need some garnet colored ones for my living room.

Hi Jenn, I haven’t tried dyeing a drop cloth yet, but I’m planning on doing it for a new project in the next few months. I’ll be posting about it here!
