Desk Chair Update

My $25 Craigslist desk came with a beat up spindle chair.

We made over the desk in white and placed it in our toddler boy room.

And this weekend we discovered Valspar’s new line of spray paint colors.

We chose “Tropical Foliage” (not pictured above) in a Satin finish for the chair to bring out the apple green highlights of the room.

Because this is a child’s room, we didn’t even bother with sanding the chair. It will be beat up again before we know it.

This project was so fast I will never “brush paint” spindle furniture again. Spraying is just that easy!

Adirondack Rescue

Let’s be clear. I am not a dumpster diver. But if something is sticking OUT of the dumpster or is propped against the SIDE of the dumpster, that’s a different story.

So it was with a pair of Adirondack chairs poking out of the top of the clubhouse dumpster in my neighborhood.

They were old, weathered, and rickety, but nothing a few new screws and some TLC couldn’t cure. We sanded down the arms, tightened the joints and spray painted.

Perfect for our backyard fire pit.

Do you KNOW how much these things cost new? Cheapest I can find is $60 so I figure we just “made” $120 with our dumpster acquisition. (Good thing, because it looks like I need to buy a leaf blower, no?)

Not to mention they are exquisite for chilly fall evenings by the fire.

Never Underestimate “FREE”

This was left curbside in our neighborhood. (Thank you non-trashing neighbors!)

How could I resist? A rocker with good bones that just needed a little sanding and painting.

So the good Hubs hauled it home and got to work on a quick makeover.

I’m nuts for the little cutout in the back.

It softens the front porch for a more inviting entrance don’t you think?

And THAT’s the power of FREE.
