Christmas Tree on the Porch

Well here it is December 30 and I’m just now putting up some Christmas decor photos. This month has been a chaotic blur of travel, kid activities, birthdays, and revolving illnesses passing through our house. So yes, Christmas is over but I still want to share a few photos of my two favorite Christmas spots in our house. (Also possibly the ONLY decorated spots in our house.)

We put the Christmas tree on the screened porch this year and I really love the Southern feeling I get seeing it out there. We barely decorated it at all…just strung some lights and threw on some gold balls that I’ve had for eons. Simple.

Nighttime was especially nice…

The entryway also got some attention. I reused the ornaments from last year.

The great thing is that with so little decorating it shouldn’t take any time at all to put everything back!

A little Christmas in the Kitchen

I’m not going nuts with the Christmas decorations this year. Can’t actually. Between the new baby and the new business this year, Christmas had to be simple.

And I really REALLY like it.

I made those little boxwood wreaths on a standard wire frame you can get at the craft store. Boxwoods grow so slowly that I didn’t want to take many clippings, which is why I did these in a small size.

My mother-in-law (also the world’s best yard sale/thrift/bargain shopper), found a set of four pewter Jefferson cups for $2 at a yard sale. Can you imagine? She’s the secret to some of my best finds. Anyway, she gave me this lovely set of Jefferson cups which I wanted to use here in the window. I filled them with Epsom salt to look a little like snow.

It smells so good!

Christmas Wishes

Enjoy these little vignettes of Christmas this year.

And of course these little ones are central to the celebration….

Love and Peace from ours to yours this Christmas.

Christmas Switch-Up

I have had these candle rings for 10 years.

But this year I wanted to use them in a different color scheme since the purplish-burgundy-reds don’t fit.

Rust-oleum makes some fantastic shimmery metallic colors, so I decided to try a few coats of it. (Can they please start paying me to say this stuff?)

I left a little color bleeding through the silvery gray.

Then hung them with light gray grosgrain and clear thumbtacks in the kitchen window.

Note: My kitchen is not yellow although my camera wants you to think it is.

Then, because my sweet Grandma sent us some Harry & David delights (Thank you Grams!), I put the boxes to use in a window vignette.

Aren’t they cute? Had I known we would get these lovely boxes, I probably would have sprayed the wreaths bright glittery red. Hey….next year!

And then one of my favorite re-uses is this Ouzo bottle we hauled back from Greece, that I keep as a vase. Just looking at it makes me happy.

Would love to see some of your Christmas switch-ups!
