Fun and Easy Spring Decor

May I be the first to wish you Happy Spring!

I know the calendar hasn’t officially rung Spring, but since we’ve had the warmest winter in the history of weather and I’ve been looking at budding trees and flowers for WEEKS now, it is time. (One of the true perks of living in NC!)

My dining room wall has a huge empty frame that you may remember from my Christmas Ornament Wall Art post. Starting with that frame, I added the pink wreaths from my Valentine’s Mantel to turn it into something Spring-y.

At Target I found S-p-r-i-n-g letter blocks for $2.50. So putting it all together, here’s my little touch of Spring whimsy.

At the center of the dining room table are my favorite faux blooms from Pier 1 about three years ago (but they still sell them).

I like the vibrance of the pinks in contrast with the gray walls.

How’s that for a $2.50 cheap-o project? Here’s to Spring y’all…

Recycling Gift Tags Into Artwork

My boss gave me this cute diaper cake at our office baby shower.

There are little jungle animal sticker tags on the ribbon around this “cake” which inspired some artwork possibilities.

Remember these empty frames in the nursery?

Well I took those cute jungle animal tags, added some ribbon….

And what’s better than fre-cycled?

Bathroom Vanity Mirror Makeover

When we moved in, the master bath looked like this:

That l-ooooong boring frameless builder’s mirror gave no character to the vanity, and the paint color we affectionately called “mud.” (The picture doesn’t do justice to the murky muddiness of those walls.)

First up was removing the mirror from the wall. (Hubsy and neighbor friend get all credit for taking this heavy beast out.)

Then we painted the bathroom a soft creamy spa color called “Tagsale Linen” by Valspar that we had Sherwin-Williams match. (Because their paint is the. best.)

We found two Homegoods mirrors in a dark bronze finish that were the perfect size…not to mention the price!

Last, hubs replaced the chrome faucets with oil-rubbed bronze fixtures from Lowe’s.

And those three changes resulted in this…

The bathroom actually grew up!

When my lotion dispenser pump broke (left), I kept the jar anyway to repurpose for other items.

The candle sconces were from (now-defunct) Illuminations many years ago.

When I want to add a punch of color, I can replace the candles with flowers. Here my vase is a shot glass…perfect diameter for the tealight base. (Love the surprise flowers Becki!)

The rug my dear friend Marjorie brought back from Afghanistan warms the room beautifully with all the right colors.

The lights are on dimmers for a nice soaking bath or just to create some moody drama. :-)

All-in-all this took minimal effort but resulted in a dramatic upgrade to the vanity and the entire bathroom aesthetic.

DIY Ornament Art

Here is my favorite Christmas project this year.

It started with a frame we found in someone’s curbside trash.

(Reminder: We are not dumpster divers. We are opportunists.)

It was originally gold, then the hubs sprayed it red for another project, and now here it is in the process of transforming to a metallic silver.

I used some ribbon, 25-cents ornaments from last year’s Christmas clearance, and clear thumbtacks to make this.

If you look at the top of the frame you can see the clear thumbtacks holding the ribbon in place.

You can also see some red bleeding through because I ran out of spray paint!

The photos really don’t convey all the shine and glitter of these ornaments.

When the light hits it, they’re beautiful, especially at night.

Here’s how the whole room looks.

Share your favorite holiday decor project!
